Seams of Forgiveness
24x17x15inches ,plaster, sheetrock, wood, acrylic paint, oil paint
This piece is an intimate indulging in whimsy, selfishness, and forgiveness. I have had strong feelings about the homes I've grown up in and the more I mature I've began to form connections with the effect its had on me and my family. My mother specifically seems to be very consciously affected by where we stay. She lives with the weight multiple children who she must house, raise, and protect on her own. Mistakes and guilt she feels as a mother doesn't leave her behind and providing for us has only gotten harder. So for our survival she needs to recognize that we deserve to be self serving if we are to become something we can look back on without that guilt.
Courtney Pride has recently been obsessed with the environment he and his family survives in. Whether it is the facade of thin identical walls or a mental ballet dance, He feels it Is crucial that there be weight given to the literal and metaphorical places where others devote our time. Therefore their mixing of traditional and digital processes attempt to hint toward the varying authenticity of our connections and motivations and provide a step to continue his own personal growth.
